Midwich Technology Exposed: double digit growth, international expansion, new solution zones and GDPR workshops

Mercedes Benz World: 11 - 12 October 2017

  • Revenue increased by 33.6% to £211.6 million for six months ended 30 June 2017
  • Acquisition of Gebroeders van Domburg B.V expands global presence, to 650+ staff
  • New for 2017: GDPR workshop series and Vertical Vision Zones for Retail, Corporate and Education sectors

Midwich (part of The Midwich Group Plc) a specialist audio visual and document solutions distributor to the trade market gathered over 1,000 visitors to showcase never seen before products and cutting-edge technology from vendor partners in the corporate, retail and education sectors and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), at this year’s Technology Exposed.

With over a quarter of a million pounds invested in staff training throughout 2016-17, and this year a £56 million increase in available credit and close to 2,000+ customer visits, the company has a growing pool of partners attracted by its speed of response, competitive pricing, stock availability and account management.

Visitors to Technology Exposed heard keynote speaker Kate Adamson and seminars from Fujitsu and KodakAlaris address the upcoming GDPR. KodakAlaris showcased how its technology can find, categorise and unlock the hidden potential of unstructured data. While Fujitsu presented the only software available in the UK with a proven track record of success adoption by GDPR compliant companies.

Kate Adamson, Futurist & CEO, Futurenautics, said about GDPR:

"1.9 billion records were lost or stolen in the first half of 2017, which is more than during the whole of 2016 and that really demonstrates that cyber attacks aren't just likely any longer, they're inevitable. The consequences of breaching the new GDPR when it comes into force could be significant, so it's understandable that businesses are worried, but complying with the GDPR is actually an opportunity to develop digital competence, which is going to be essential for any business to remain competitive in the future. It starts with really understanding the data the organisation stores, who owns it and whether it holds a business value, and then having the tools to actively identify, quantify and recover from a breach as effectively as possible. If a business can do those things it's laid the groundwork not only for GDPR compliance, but successful digital transformation too."

Matthew Smith, Product Manager Document Solutions, commented on the channel opportunity:

“The potential for growth in the context of GDPR was immediately clear to us, and we are proud to bring partners some exciting products that offer clear benefits to those digitising content in light of the incoming regulations. The Document Scan team at Midwich is now able to offer our partners the strongest range of hardware, service and software options in the industry. We can back this up with the knowledge of our scan specialists, giving customers unrivalled level of choice, expertise and service.”

New vertical Retail, Corporate and Education Zones at Technology Exposed

In all new sector zones, Midwich and wholly owned PSCo and Holdan highlighted technology for specific verticals.

Within the dedicated Retail zone, visitors discovered how Lift & Learn technology is changing the face of shop floors. The PSCo team uncovered the hype surrounding LED displays, focusing on what they can achieve when specified in retail applications.

The Education zone housed some of the latest technology available for the education market place. Within the zone, Holdan’s team showcased the exciting setup of a media suite, with live filming and editing on-site. The Midwich team provided an advice centre for more standard classroom environments provided by SMART Technologies.

The Corporate zone highlighted kit to create future-proof visionary meeting rooms from huddle spaces to boardrooms. The PSCo team, within this zone, was on-hand to introduce new display technologies available for the corporate sector, within applications, such as boardrooms, receptions, auditoriums and atriums.

Additionally, the Audio Arena hosted a multitude of industry leading vendors. Midwich’s Professional Audio Division demonstrated best in-show audio technologies that are guaranteed to create an atmosphere in any environment.

Midwich Technical

Midwich has significantly invested to improve the support of its trade dealers and partners through the development of its specialist technical division, Midwich Technical. The department has 30 specialists who are experts in the field of audio, technical video, video conferencing and security products. The team offers pre- and post-sales technical support and project design assistance, and has worked with 2,076 customers in 2017 supporting the latest technologies such as AV over IP and wireless collaboration. The Midwich technical team also runs training courses on a number of technologies and the entire team is undergoing CTS accreditations.

Jon Dew-Stanley, Director of Midwich Technical commented: “We continue to raise the bar to meet and exceed our clients expectations. 2018 promises to be an exciting year for Midwich and we look forward to bringing to market an enhanced number of services to deliver outstanding audio visual projects with our partners, that are supported with aftercare and warranties that lead the industry”.

International expansion of The Midwich Group

Following the acquisition of the majority stake in Spanish and Portugese value-added distributor of audio, video and lighting solutions, Earpro in March 2017, Midwich recently announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Gebroeders van Domburg B.V., a specialist distributor of audio visual and lighting solutions in the Netherlands.

The company has particular strength in the large format display market, and distributes key audio visual brands such as Samsung, NEC and AMX.  Through its transport division, Van Domburg also has in-house warehousing and transportation capabilities based out of Rotterdam; a major logistics centre.

Iain Campbell, Sales Director at Midwich commented: “Midwich is organised entirely around our belief that we can’t succeed if our partners don’t succeed. That’s why 2016-17 has resulted in our highest level of staff training investment (£257,000) with 186 people completing customer service related qualifications. With 40% of our 260+ UK sales team specialising in a product, vendor or market, Midwich is ideally placed to support upcoming challenges and opportunities facing our partners, including GDPR compliance.”
