Midwich Tech Tales gets set to turn pupils’ words into technology

Primary school pupils in Diss and the surrounding area are set to bring the future of technology to life with Tech Tales – the Midwich SMART Short Story Challenge.

Midwich, the Diss-based company responsible for distributing audio visual, IT and document solutions technology to businesses across the UK, has teamed up with SMART Technologies, a leading manufacturer of interactive displays for education, to launch the Tech Tales competition.

Two winning schools will each win a SMART interactive technology suite, worth over £6,750, fully installed into a classroom in their school.

Aimed at inspiring greatness and piquing children’s imagination and interest in how technology may shape the future of learning, Tech Tales will run from 27 February 2017 to 21 April 2017.

All primary schools within a 10-mile radius of Diss have been invited to enter and staff at Midwich have also nominated local schools in the areas in which they live, opening the competition up to around 80 schools in the region.

Ben Thompson, Midwich Communications and PR Manager and a part of the Community Team at Midwich, said: “At Midwich we want to inspire young people to think about the future of technology and how it could help them to learn.

“So we have created Tech Tales for pupils within our community – from Reception through to Year 6 – to encourage them to write a short story about how technology might change the way schools deliver education over the next 20 years.”

Jane Ashworth, Managing Director UK & Ireland at SMART Technologies and one of the Tech Tales judges, said: “At SMART Technologies we make it our mission to inspire greatness, delivering a connected classroom learning experience that brings education to life. We’re delighted to be collaborating with Midwich on this exciting project and we’re looking forward to reading the stories entered into the Tech Tales competition.”
