Multi award-winning global tech company Midwich, which is headquartered in Diss, recently launched their Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. As part of this programme, and their commitment to the local community, a team of 12 volunteer litter pickers hit the streets of Diss, armed with a high vis jacket, rubbish bags, protective gloves and a litter picker and one sole focus: to clear Diss of litter.
On the day, the volunteers collected an overwhelming 22 kg's (3.5 stone) of rubbish as well as clocking up an impressive 74,000 steps of physical activity. The team collected 8 full rubbish bags including a host of weird and wonderful items, including an Elf on the Shelf teddy and a head torch.
South Norfolk Council Cabinet member, Kay Mason Billig commented:
“It’s wonderful to see communities come together to help us look after our local environment and we encourage everyone to dispose of their rubbish responsibly. We want to continue working with our communities and encourage others to care about and take a pride in the place they live.”
Carla Shipp, Midwich Group Head of HR and volunteer, commented:
“It was great fun spending the afternoon out of the office with other volunteers from across Midwich, doing something completely different to the norm and knowing your actions and efforts are making a positive difference to both the community and the environment. We see the benefit of actively encouraging our employees to take part in worthwhile community projects and would encourage other local employers to do the same.
We received a warm welcome and some inspiring comments from local residents who clearly take pride in the community they live in. We picked up lots of rubbish on the day and it was also good to burn some calories too during the litter pick!”

Midwich‘s internal CSR team, consisting of eight staff members from across the business, alongside ongoing feedback from other employees, created the new CSR programme which covers four key areas and initiatives: people, environment, community and charity.
