In October 2016, Leeds City College installed a new display solution for their auditorium, at the Printworks Campus. With a fixed space and design in mind, they knew that they needed a product that could be scaled to fit the designated area.
AV2000, leading Audio-Visual company who specialise in the installation of audio visual presentation solutions, worked closely with the college to understand the requirements and design a full audio-visual system to support the brand-new video wall and make the most of the space and technology.
AV2000 agreed to meet with PSCo, part of the Midwich Group, at ISE 2017 where they had the chance to view the products in application and chat to the sales specialists about the variety of pixel pitches and products available. They then visited the PSCo Assessment Centre where they could compare product performance and look at the difference in pixel pitch, brightness, resolution and refresh rate each product can achieve.
AV2000 introduced PSCo to Leeds City College, and by visiting the PSCo Head Office with the Director of IT they were able to view the range of LED screens available and opt for the Absen product.
AV2000 successfully secured the project and designed a full audio-visual system incorporating sound, vision, control and AV furniture. PSCo provided them with a bespoke supporting technical evidence file, documenting why they should use LED, the benefits and a bespoke technical justification.
WHAT WE DID
Following AV2000 winning the project, PSCo provided a 4m x 2.3m wall of Absen’s 2.4mm N2 BLK LED. With a viewing distance of only 2 metres, and a 16:9 ratio, the display could provide the perfect canvas for teaching and events, using a multitude of content types including image and video. The screen was then cladded with white plasterboard in order to provide an aesthetically pleasing finish to keep in line with the design of the room and to ensure the modern technology fitted with the buildings restoration plans.
PSCo have a unique position within the market where they hold UK stock, meaning that they could fulfil the budget requirement and time scales without any costly or lengthy lead times.
PSCo attended a site survey to assess the area the screen was being installed, how much resource would be needed and the power and data requirements. During this survey, it was found that the screen wouldn’t be able to be floor mounted as the structure was unable to go underneath the floorboards due to underfloor heating.
In order to resolve this on site, PSCo worked with a UK mounting provider to create a solution that meant the screen could be braced off of the back wall and sit on top of the floor providing a floor to wall mounting solution. By using a UK supplier, it meant that they could design and ship the mount within 10 working days.
PSCo also provided full technical assistance to install the LED wall, and commissioned dark and white line adjustment to ensure that the screen looked its best when it was ready.
Company Director, Andrew Cripwell, commented on the project: "We were very impressed with the range of video wall technology that PSCo had to offer and their support throughout the project allowed us to deliver a stunning video wall for the college"
