Terry joins Midwich to take the role of key accounts sales manager focused predominantly on the pro audiovisual reseller channel.

With a background in sales and business development within the AV and IT industries, Terry comes with experience in audiovisual products, digital signage and video conferencing which has spanned the last 15 years.

MIDWICH LAUNCHES WITH INTERMEC

Midwich and Intermec sign distributorship agreement

MIDWICH, the UK’s leading trade-only distributor of technology solutions in printing, security, barcode, auto-ID, and digital imaging has today announced that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Intermec Technologies, the world’s leading provider of rugged mobile business solutions. The agreement covers the distribution of Intermec’s supply chain solutions in the United Kingdom and Ireland and signifies Intermec’s desire to extend its reseller coverage to wider partner base. The move will see Intermec continue to expand its business in a number of strategic markets, such as distribution centres, field service, postal CEP and retail sectors.

Established in 1979, MIDWICH has become a key value added distributor of print and imaging as well as electronics products and will be playing a key role in supporting the reseller community outside of the Intermec Platinum Partner base, especially towards those who currently do not sell Intermec products.

Mel Taylor, Intermec’s Channel Director, EMEA added: ‘As Intermec has focused on its strategic Market Deployment Environment opportunities (DE’s) it is clear we do not have enough specialised partners in the UK. We require more expert partners in our chosen UK markets. Invision to supply PerfectWave DAC MkII

Second-gen PS Audio Media DAC now available to UK trade

Invision UK, the leading trade-only distributor of integrated AV solutions for residential, commercial and marine applications, has confirmed that PS Audio’s PerfectWave DAC MkII is now available in the UK.

Creating warm, open and highly detailed analogue sound from disparate digital sources, Mark II of the successful PerfectWave DAC (PWD) introduces some new features and re-engineered components, but retains the appeal of the landmark original product.

Able to accept up to seven sources of digital music and produce a high-resolution, high-end and natural-sounding analogue sound, PerfectWave DAC MkII puts an end to worries over how and where digital audio data is stored and transferred – it can deliver the same high-end result from data on a HDD or CD player, from a networked PC or even streamed from the Internet.

Chris Dawson, Invision UK Product Manager says: “PS Audio’s PerfectWave DAC MkII is a revolutionary product that at last makes the audio source irrelevant. It goes way beyond the limitations of a standard DAC and can be used as both a music server and pre-amp. We’re sure its remarkably sweet analogue results will go down a storm with installers.”

Able to detect, stream from, and control any DLNA-compatible network source, as well as web-derived content, the PerfectWave DAC MkII lets end-users access their music from anywhere in a home. As well as delivering detail-laden music of the highest quality possible into an amplifier, the PerfectWave DAC MkII can also attach to a power amplifier, setting the volume and balance of audio from sources connected to it.

New on the Mark II is a redesigned digital input board, fresh software, upgraded cables, a new remote control and the addition of a PS Audio Critical Link fuse for the power supply. Promising lower jitter analogue-like music thanks to its new NativeX mode, the upgraded PerfectWave DAC MkII also adds 11 additional power supplies and a precision balance volume control, and a 192KHz 24-bit asynchronous USB.

The PerfectWave DAC MkII’s seven digital inputs comprise two HDMI (utilising a unique PS Audio-created standard for the I2S data management system of any DAC or CD player), optical digital audio, coaxial S/PDIF, AES/EBU, the 192KHz 24-bit asynchronous USB, and the network Bridge.

Connected components are then given the NativeX treatment, which consists of a unique Digital Lens built into the PerfectWave DAC MkII that takes any digital source – including a S/PDIF signal – and regenerates a new and jitter-free version. At the heart of the PerfectWave DAC MkII is a Wolfson WM8742 stereo differential DAC, the latest-generation high-end DAC available.

Custom installers who have installed a first-generation PerfectWave DAC in previous projects can upgrade them to the Mark II version by fitting the new digital processing board.

Invision announces PS Audio PowerPlants

P5 and P10 power conditioners now available to UK trade

With twice the magnets, twice the energy storage and four times the number of output devices than PS Audio’s former flagship Power Plant Premier product, the PerfectWave P10 Power Plant boasts an output impedance that’s a stunning 100 times lower. The end result is recorded music that’s more dynamic and open, with added musicality that extends to brighter voices and harmonics, and with zero distortion.

Installer-friendly, the PerfectWave P10 Power Plant can be monitored from anywhere in the world. Any web-enabled device, including a smartphone, can access the PerfectWave P10 Power Plant’s control panel, which in turn can be used to reboot, switch-on, deactivate or check the status of any connected component. PS Audio’s Globalnet system also creates email alerts to let custom installers know about high levels of surges or other problems, while system holidays can be scheduled to only burn power when it’s needed.

The rear of the PerfectWave P10 Power Plant houses two mini jacks that can act as either an IR input or output, or as a DC trigger. It can be assigned up to 15 IR commands triggered by unlimited assignable events.

The PerfectWave P5 Power Plant is PS Audio’s second largest station, and is identical apart from subtle differences in power and cooling design. The bigger, heavier PerfectWave P10 Power Plant has more capacitance and magnetics, as well as larger external heat sinks. Smaller in size and lighter, the PerfectWave P5 Power Plant is aimed at high-end two-channel and anything but the most high-end home cinema projects. Both products are assembled from the ground up in PS Audio’s local operation in Boulder, Colorado, USA.

Invision UK reveals Polk’s Vanishing Series

Near-invisible in-ceiling speakers now available in UK

Invision UK, the leading trade-only distributor of integrated AV solutions for residential, commercial and marine applications, has confirmed that Polk Audio’s Vanishing Series of in-ceiling speakers are now available to UK installers.

Ideal for multi-room music applications and multichannel home cinema, Polk’s Vanishing Series comprises six separate models that each fit into smaller cutout sizes than their sound reproduction suggest. Polk’s new perforated Sheer-Grill metal grille measures just 0.6mm in diameter in a market where 0.8-0.9mm is the norm. But the Sheer-Grille is as acoustically transparent as larger-holed grilles, and can easily be painted for an almost invisible look.

Commenting on the immediate availability of Polk’s Vanishing Series, Chris Dawson, Invision UK Product Manager, comments: “With Polk’s new Vanishing Series of in-ceiling speakers, an in-ceiling installation need no longer be about compromise. Interior designers have been wanting smaller speakers for a long time, but it’s only with the Vanishing Series that we’re able to offer near-invisible audio without making any sacrifice of sound quality.”

The new Vanishing Series is split into two groups of three in-ceiling speakers that match the range of in-wall speakers recently introduced. Developed from Polk’s LSiM range of floorstanders, the high-end 500LS, 700LS and 900LS speakers use the same transducer technology as their inspiration – and these three in-ceiling speakers each feature a 3/4inch ring radiator tweeter, an aerated polypropylene midrange driver, a mineral-filled polypropylene woofer, and a butyl rubber surround.

The 500LS, 700LS and 900LS in-ceiling speakers can easily be mixed-in with LSiM floorstanders, if hidden surround or center channels are required for a discreet home cinema installation, with the exact timbre retained.

The entry-level RT Vanishing Series models comprise the 50RT, 70RT and 90RT – which owe their transducer technology to Polk’s RTi speakers. All use silk dome tweeters and mineral-filled polypropylene midrange drivers and, again, can be matched to a multichannel system using larger speakers from the RTi Series.

All models within the Vanishing Series promote off-axis listening, by mounting the woofers towards the back of the enclosure. The less directional mid and high frequency drive units are placed towards the front baffle, thereby ensuring an even frequency response.

As well as easy installation and unsurpassed sound quality, the Vanishing Series also comes with a limited lifetime guarantee that lends valuable peace of mind to both installers and end-users.

MIDWICH ACQUIRES HARRIS & RUSSELL NAME AND ASSETS

It was announced today that Midwich had acquired the goodwill, trade names and customer list of Harris & Russell Limited (H&R) for an undisclosed sum.

H&R, which was founded in 1924, is a three generation family business. It evolved from its stocks and service origin supplying wireless sets, condensers, and valves into a distributor of branded consumer electronics products to the independent retail and institutional sectors nationwide.

A slowdown in demand during the recent recession led to a significant reduction in market share. In the circumstances, the company decided to close down and has disposed of its remaining assets to Midwich.

Stephen Fenby, the Managing Director of Midwich commented: “It is sad to see the closure of such a long established and highly regarded business as Harris & Russell. Despite the increasingly tough conditions in the independent retail market, we believe that H&R continued to demonstrate a level of personal service and expertise desired by the market.

Midwich was established over 30 years ago and has built its success on combining a high level of service with the cost effectiveness of scale. We established a team focused on the independent retail market in 2008. This team was expanded and rebranded Midwich Home in 2011, at which time it also launched a range of exclusive brands targeted at the custom installation market. Neil Drain (the former managing director of consumer accessories distributor Lawton Trade) joined us late last year, following which we have continued to expand both our product portfolio and range of customers.

Magenta Research to Demonstrate Enhanced MultiView Line and New Voyager Series Products at ISE 2012

True Colours Distribution, the technical division of Midwich, specialising in connectivity solutions for complex AV installations, has today announced that it will be stocking many new and improved products from vendor partner Magenta Research the recognised leader in signal extension, distribution and switching.

Magenta will introduce a wide-range of new and improved products in Booth #4U30 at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2012, taking place in Amsterdam January 31-
February 2. ISE 2012 marks the official public debut of upgrades to Magenta’s MultiView line, which has served—for over 10 years—as the most adaptable, top performing solution for the distribution of pro-AV signals over UTP cable. MultiView II enhancements are all designed to make it even easier to perfectly replicate 1080p resolution (and higher) video at distances of up to 2,000 feet. MultiView II products on display will include the MultiView II DVI, T4, STx and XRTx transmitters, plus MultiView II AK600 and AK1200 receivers.

MultiView II upgrades include:
• Previous MultiView products occasionally required internal jumper repositioning to change configurations; MultiView II introduces a totally revamped, all external configuration scheme with easy-to-use buttons and status LEDs
• Improved EDID & DDC modes of operation
• Improved sync control
• Fourth-pair configuration options (for aux data like serial and audio)
• Streamlined connector locations for more intuitive rack mounting
• Fully backwards compatible with all previously-manufactured MultiView equipment

Voyager series additions
Magenta will also be demonstrating new entries in its Voyager Series of products, which extend, switch and distribute video and auxiliary signals over fibre-optic cable. Voyager’s compact format (CF) line of products includes the CF-18, a rack-mountable chassis designed to densely pack 18 Voyager CF transmitters into a space-saving 4U enclosure. The CF-18 eliminates the need for separate power supplies and dramatically reduces installation time, while providing a streamlined, condensed rack-based solution.

Stand-alone Voyager CF products will be introduced at ISE as well. Only an inch deep, CF devices are much smaller than the existing, modular Voyager transmitters and receivers, and come with built-in mounting ears, allowing them to be easily secured behind a display or under a desk.

A Voyager 4-port transmitter will also be debuted at ISE. When combined with the ability to daisy-chain Voyager receivers, the four-port transmitter greatly increases signal distribution options for the fibre-based Voyager line. The four-port transmitter is also a key component in enabling Voyager fibre-optic based matrix switching to reach a maximum size of 640 total ports.

Voyager New Products:
• Voyager CF-18: 4U, rack-mountable chassis that holds and powers 18 Voyager CF transmitter units
• Voyager CF Series: Compact format, stand-alone Voyager transmitters and receivers
• 4-Port Transmitter: increases Voyager signal distribution options and expands Voyager matrix switch sizes to 640 total ports, which Voyager Flex I/O technology allows to be inputs OR outputs

Heading-up the LSiM Series are two 4-way floorstanders that both include transducers constructed using Polk’s own anti-distortion Dynamic Balance technology. The centre channel is provided by both the LSiM706c or LSiM704c – each a high performance speaker designed to be the lynchpin of the front soundstage in a home cinema setting. Latest Optoma Themescene models now available

Both projectors are Full 3D 1080p and include 3D-RF glasses (the HD83 is supplied with two pairs; HD33 one) and an RF emitter. These have been specifically designed to optimise 3D image quality. Casio mobile devices revolutionising the way we work

As the need for better security measures increases and new applications for barcode, RFID and mobile printing are discovered Synergix, the auto-ID and barcode division of Midwich notes the diverse areas where Casio handhelds are currently being employed.

Synergix stocks a catalogue of Casio products and amongst them is the Casio IT-800 which has been transforming certain parts of the healthcare sector. For instance West Suffolk Hospital (WSH) in Bury St Edmunds has been using the Casio IT-800 to remove any element of risk in matching blood types with transfusion recipients. The National Haemo Vigilance Scheme identified that a major risk area was during the journey from the storage fridge to the site of transfusion, to the right patient. To address this, stored blood is identified by a barcode and can only be released when this matches a patient identification barcode. It is then matched with the barcode on the patient’s wristband.

Ashley Lewis, IT project coordinator at WSH commented: ‘In the past, we used to rely on staff diligence and a system of manual checks and cross-checks. It was always a concern though with over 350 staff requiring access to the blood bank that room for human error was always there. We wanted a watertight system that not only tracked that the correct blood was collected for the correct patient, but also that it was given to the correct patient and that it would alert the nurse if the recommended time out of controlled temperature storage was exceeded.’

Gilda Bass, blood transfusion specialist at WSH added: ‘We had a number of key criteria that we worked closely with IT on when commissioning the handheld PDAs. Reliability and robustness were obvious essentials working in this high pressure environment. Plus with the units being spread across several high blood use wards, we were looking for a truly mobile system that allowed seamless Wi-Fi connection.’

The integrated wireless feature of the IT-800 therefore, came into its own, enabling staff to exchange data between the bedside, operating theatre or anywhere in the hospital, and the Blood Audit Release system.

With the system running effectively, Ashley Lewis commented: ‘We can envisage further applications for the Casio IT-800. Secure drug dispensing is one such area, as is tracking of total patient care plans from time of admittance to discharge from our care.’

Casio handhelds are suitable for many tasks, hence why Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has employed the DT-X30 to revolutionise its parking enforcement provision. Since choosing the device, the council has seen increased efficiency in administration, improved recovery rates and a fall in challenges.

Martin Beard, parking services manager at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council commented: ‘We now have full capability to enforce all Regulation 10 “drive away” offences, which had not previously been possible, and the introduction of cashless parking earlier this year couldn’t have been easier and is already proving to be a very popular payment method.’

National Express West Midlands has recently issued its inspectors with the Casio IT-3100 to enable them to operate more efficiently. Inspectors use the device to instantly identify whether or not a ticket is valid and to issue on-the-spot penalty fares. Of the devices reviewed the IT-3100 was the only one in its class to feature a printer, and a fast one at that. Printing at 28 lines per second, the result is faster issue of tickets and therefore faster inspections and increased productivity.

New Panasonic range will fill all voids left by Sanyo

Midwich, the UK’s largest distributor for both Sanyo and Panasonic projectors can confirm that Panasonic’s intention to withdraw the Sanyo brand at the end of Q1 2012 will have many positive implications. Having acquired Sanyo in December 2009, Panasonic has decided to withdraw the Sanyo brand from 31 March 2012.

Darren Lewitt, AV director of Midwich, is keen to emphasise that this latest move is a positive step. He commented: ‘I firstly want to reassure customers that a source at Panasonic has informed me that the new extended Panasonic line up for their FY 2012 will fill all the voids left by the withdrawal of the Sanyo product range. There is no doubt in my mind that Panasonic wants to become the largest projector brand and one plus one most definitely needs to equal more than two moving forward. This decision was kind of expected and we have seen both Sanyo’s and Panasonic's projection businesses grow again this year, so the potential of a new Panasonic line-up from 1 April 2012 using possibly the combined technologies from Sanyo and Panasonic will be very strong indeed. If they get this right Panasonic will become the UK's largest projector brand. I would urge resellers to continue to sell both brands in the short term and then migrate over to the new extended Panasonic line up from April. As yet, there has been no official press statement other than the statement that came from Sanyo. This action may represent an opportunity over the next four months for resellers to pick up some lucrative Sanyo deals in Q1 from Midwich and we will keep the channel posted on this.’

Lewitt continues: ‘People have quite rightly raised concerns since Sanyo issued its statement but I would urge them not to worry. Sanyo has been a great partner to many in the channel over the years so now is not the time to jump ship. If resellers are patient then I believe that they will be rewarded when Panasonic reveals possibly the strongest projection brand line-up in 2012. We also have to remember that this migration process actually started a while back and the Panasonic PTVX400/W330 range is pretty much identical to the Sanyo XU4001/WXU300 products. I am confident that we will see a stronger line-up from Panasonic moving forward and one that represents a good profit opportunity for resellers. Please feel free to contact me or my team if you have any questions. As soon as we have an official Panasonic statement we will share it with you and our customers. We have been told that all Sanyo products purchased up to 31 March will be fully warranted for their lifetime by the Sanyo service centres along with a Sanyo service team for the majority of 2012. Which lamps will also continue to offer replacement lamps to the channel.

Demonstration of WOW Vision’s VEOS products available at True Colours

True Colours Distribution, the technical division of Midwich, specialising in connectivity solutions for complex AV installations, has been appointed by WOW Vision to distribute their products to the UK market. Demonstrations are currently available at True Colours Distribution’s state-of-the-art facility at Crowthorne, Berkshire.

WOW Vision offers products that make it effortless to connect Macs or PCs wirelessly to large screens, monitors and projectors. One of the biggest issues currently faced is one of the compatibility of different analogue and digital signals and connector types. WOW Vision provides a future proof and cost effective alternative for a system that would traditionally require input cables, wall plates, extenders, switchers and a control system.

WOW Vision, addresses connectivity problems by providing a facility whereby the operator logs on to the VEOS box through their Wi-Fi network. Content from the PC streams through to the network and then to the display. Accessing the network is so quick and easy that even visiting presenters using their own laptops can connect via a web interface. But the VEOS does more than just connect PCs to screens. Multiple users can connect to one screen, streamlining the transition between presenters, while other items such as electronic whiteboards, can be incorporated and shared by several participants.

Midwich Home announces appointment of Matt Taylor

MidwichHome, the home technology division of Midwich the UK’s largest audio-visual distribution group, has announced that Matt Taylor has joined its independent retail sales team, as Home Technology Accessories Specialist. Matt has worked at Midwich for 6 years, in a variety of AV sales and account management roles. His present position is Epson Business Development Executive.

APPRENTICES JOIN MIDWICH

Midwich, the Diss company specialising in the distribution of a vast range of technology products, has recently awarded apprenticeships to three young people. Lasting twelve months, the apprenticeships will see, Jade Youngman, Oliver Seaman, and Edward Calton also studying an NVQ giving them a qualification as well as valuable experience that so many employers currently seek.

Emily Orford, human resources manager at Midwich commented: ‘As a growing business, we are keen to bring people in that we can develop and who we hope will stay with us for years to come. In addition, as one of the area’s larger employers we recognise the difficulties currently faced by people in the jobs market and want to provide opportunities where we can.’

Lack of opportunity elsewhere is just one reason why the apprentices are delighted to find employment at Midwich. Jade Youngman, apprentice to the major accounts team said, ‘Apprenticeships are a way of getting your foot in the door and beginning a career at an early age. MIDWICH ANNOUNCES INTERACTIVE DIVISION

Midwich, the leading trade-only distributor of AV solutions, has today announced the launch of its interactive technology division. The new division was unveiled today by Darren Lewitt, AV director, who said that this latest venture represents a natural progression for a business already at the heart of technology solutions.

Casio Releases VX-100 Business Support Terminal

LONDON, October 20, 2011 – Casio Computer Co., Ltd., today announced the release of the stylishly designed VX-100 business support terminal. Customer relationship management, reservation management and sales management applications will be available on this terminal. Associated with those applications, the terminal provides business operators with a variety of data that they can use to stimulate business demand. The VX-100 business support terminal will begin shipping in December 2011.

The VX-100 is a compact EPOS terminal equipped with a colour main display with full-touch screen operation, a sub-display that is great for showing information to customers, and a built-in thermal printer to generate receipts. The VX-100 is designed for use in SME retail stores, and works as both a standalone system or as part of a networked system.

The VX-100 comes installed with a sales management application offering a host of data management capabilities. With the optional cash drawer, the terminal can also function as a cash register.

Additional customer relationship management and reservation management applications can be installed to enable database management of the purchase history of individual customers. The purchase history can then be used to identify preferred customers and formulate marketing strategies tailored to them.

The VX-100 EPOS terminal uses the AndroidTM operating system, and Casio has provided a software development kit that supports the VX-100 hardware. Casio plans to leverage the VX-100 to support a variety of businesses such as retail stores, restaurants and other service enterprises by developing its own additional applications as well as facilitating development of applications for the VX-100 by other developers of Android applications.

Sales Management
Conduct a multitude of sales calculations including calculations by product (items, departments and groups), time and clerk. An optional cash drawer can be added to operate the VX-100 as a cash register.

Customer Relationship Management
Build a customer database associated with sales management data. Analyze the purchase frequency and monetary amounts for each customer, in order to identify create a list of preferred customers. Operators can send emails to a list of preferred customers who have agreed to receive them, or they can specify automatic discounts when ringing up bills for preferred customers, all associated with the sales management application.

Reservation Management
Take various kinds of orders and reservations from customers, including reservations for meals. Use the customer relationship management and sales management applications to manage databases’ of customer names and reservation details including names, number of persons and time, all from the VX-100.

Remote Control by E-mail
Receive e-mail messages from a cellular phone or computer, and automatically execute instructions contained in the messages. Even check sales data from a separate location, an ideal feature for busy business managers.

MIDWICH WINS DISTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR

Midwich celebrated its excellence in the AV distribution industry by receiving, for the fifth time, the AV Award for Distributor of the Year.

The industry leader, based in Diss, Norfolk, puts its success down to a range of factors. Since last winning AV Distributor of the Year, Midwich has invested heavily in staff, infrastructure, and solution led selling.

Optoma launches range of ultra short throw projectors

Optoma has unveiled its new range of Ultra Short Throw (UST) projectors. The line-up consists of the widescreen EW675U EDU WXGA (1280 x 800) and the EX665UTEDU XGA (1024 x 768) model. Each model is supplied as either interactive (i) or non interactive. Designed with the growing business and 3D education markets in mind, the new projectors are capable of producing a 60 inch (152cm) diagonal image from just 39cm in the case of the widescreen versions and from 46cm away in the XGA format. All four models are 3D Ready.

New ‘Route 66’ TV advertising to launch

Brother UK is ramping up its support for resellers by investing over £1.5m in a major new integrated marketing campaign to drive demand for its range of P-touch labelling machines.

The campaign targets consumers and small businesses with a series of TV adverts, online activity and print advertising in national newspapers and consumer magazines between August and October.

Shot on location along the full length of Route 66 in America, the campaign follows the ‘ultimate road-test’ of Brother’s labelling machines during a 10-day road-tip. It features real life school teachers, pupils, cowboys and even exotic dancers - who discuss how they would label themselves.

The campaign, created by advertising agency Grey London and directed by famous British director James Gooding, will be first aired as a 30-second TV ad during ITV’s Coronation Street on Monday 22^nd August and will run on primetime TV slots for four weeks. Print ads will appear in the Daily Telegraph, Telegraph Magazine, Sunday Times Magazine, Daily Mail Weekend and BBC Gardeners World in order to reach the products’ target audiences such as gardeners, home improvement enthusiasts and hobbyists.

Online activity will also run across targeted networks alongside Facebook, YouTube and social media engagement activity which supports the campaign’s website

Brother is encouraging resellers to capitalise on the increased awareness of its products among the consumer and SME market, particularly as the timing of the launch coincides with the back-to-school sales period.

Phil Jones, Brother UK’s sales and marketing director, said: “We want to dispel the myth that labelling is confined to a specific sector by demonstrating the versatility of the product, and hope to drive sales of our P-touch range through partnerships with our resellers.

KEY NEW STARTERS BOLSTER RESOURCES AT MIDWICH

Midwich has recently recruited a number of instrumental staff to further push their sales business strategy, they are headed up by Lee Hooker, general sales manager at Midwich.

Phil Waterhouse, has recently joined Midwich askey account sales manager, his role will include account management of the larger AV resellers in the North of England, looking specifically at the integrators within the Pro AV space. Phil brings with him a wealth of industry experience that spans over 17 years. He has previously worked in distribution and also has experience of working in the AV reseller environment.

Additional specialist support has been added to Midwich’s new pro audio division, with the recent appointment of Steven Totterdell and Jonathan Goodsell as pro audio business development executives, they will be the main point of contact for resellers pro audio requirements. Steven has 3 year sales experience at Midwich and an audio background. Jonathan comes from a strong pro audio background and can offer resellers his wealth of technical knowledge in this area.

Optoma introduces DC300i visualiser

Long established projector specialist Optoma has turned their expertise in display products to the visualiser market with the introduction of the DC300i. Aimed squarely at the education and presentation sectors, the DC300i uses a 1/3” CMOS sensor to output in both SXGA and XGA resolution. The DC300i produces high quality images in either still or video formats and is easily connected to a projector via the industry standard VGA D-sub connector.

Using the 9x optical and a further 12x digital zoom produces images of extremely high detail, ensuring that the educationalist or presenter delivers their message with great ease and in astounding detail. The DC300i is simple to use and designed with manyadvancedfeatures included, for example it has automatic focus but has full override capability with manual focus for those instances when critical detail needs to be shown.

Justin Halls, Head of Product Management at Optoma commented, “We designed the DC300i for ease of use but for maximum performance too. The “swan neck” feature means that extremely precise positioning is incredibly straightforward. We also incorporated mercury free LED lighting into the head to produce additional lighting when required but, it can be switched off to save energy when it’s not.”

A full set of cables is included as is a fully featured remote control. However, even without the remote control, the visualiser can be controlled from the base of the unit since all the main controls are built it. Output from the visualiser can also be saved direct to a PC via the USB connection, in either still or video format once the included software has been installed to the PC.

Highlights from IFSEC 2011

Ubiqz, the specialist security product division of the Midwich Group recently exhibited for the first time at IFSEC, the UK’s largest security industry event, at the Birmingham NEC. IFSEC was an exciting security calendar event with more than 650 exhibitors and a wide range of Ubiqz’s vendor partner’s product and security services partners exhibiting.

Canon has been recognised by Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) with two “Outstanding Achievement Awards” for its imageFORMULA DR-9050C and DR-6050C production document scanners.

BLI Test Technician Joe Ellerman said, “Despite its lower price, it (the DR-9050C) doesn't skimp on image enhancing features.
